Hailing from St. Louis and residing in East Nashville, Jesse Lafser is a songwriter influenced by Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, Gillian Welch, and traditional blues singers from the 1930's. Her 2012 release, Land in Sight, was called "a solid collection of smart and earnest songs," and gets compared, pleasantly, to work from Gillian Welch, Mary Gauthier, and others who trade in a rare kind of gritty elegance, and who seek an emotional specificity that connects disparate souls. Her forthcoming record (Spring 2015) highlights her western/blues influences and features guitar virtuoso Will Kimbrough alongside some of Nashville’s best players. "★★★★. Lafser’s ability to tell a story is remarkable…her unassuming voice is subdued, simple and clear – perfect for delivering [ Land in Sight’s] profound truths.” – American Songwriter.
