Nashville-based The Smoking Flowers blend indie folk with Americana and add a dash of rock n' roll to make a genre we call Southern Gothic Folk. They have drawn comparisons to an edgy-Civil Wars, Emmylou/Gram connection, or The White Stripes. We were able to make Folk Alliance happen last minute and look forward to the showcases. We have a few booked, but would love to join yours. For showcasing inquiries, please contact management, Jeff DeLia (72 Music Management) at jeff.delia@gmail.com.
Since their sophomore album 2 Guns came out via Bandaloop Records, they have been touring consistently from Nashville to Toronto over to Los Angeles and up to Vancouve. On the last day of Summer we released an EP titled 1985 with two hit songs from that year they did their own versions of, the A-side "Boys of Summer" and B-side "Bastards of Young." The latest album garnered glowing press from All Music to American Songwriter, Alt Sounds to Deli Magazine, and Jambands to No Depression. A new album is in the works for label tbd.
Watch a live video below and see some press clippings and links further down. Live she plays accordion, ukulele, banjo, harmonica, guitar, drums, and sings. He plays lead guitar, harmonica, and sings.
Press & Praise on 2 Guns:
"For the unitiated, The Smoking Flowers make deeply personal Americana Music... '2 Guns' is already on our short list for Best Albums of the Year." ~ The Nashville Scene
"An edgy Civil Wars...or The White Stripes if Meg sang like a country angel and they lived on a dirt road." ~ Kyle O'Brien (Pitchfork)
"Often beautifully ragged; sometimes beautifully haunting; many times beautifully goofy-grinned or playful, pleading, and pledging - but always beautiful... a punkish/alt-country/whatever-you-need-it-to-be MASTERPIECE." ~ Relix Jambands
"It's rare that an album captures this kind of unabashed emotion without resorting to hip distancing devices or a wall of sound." ~ The Vinyl Anachronist
"Provocative and risky." ~ Pop Matters
"As smooth as Bourbon." ~ No Depression
