Thanks for considering us for your showcase!
Under the Big Oak Tree draws on the enduring fertile ground of acoustic American roots music with “cozy,” “picturesque” songs (Shea Conner, St. Joseph News-Press) that have an uncanny timeless quality to them. The band’s sound is a honeyed mix of traditional country and bluegrass, vintage Americana, and folk revival.
At the center of the band is the singing voice of Kristin Hamilton, evoking “Loretta Lynn when she first burst out with ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’ so many years ago: clear, emotional, and phrased just right” (Josh Dunson, Real People’s Music). Hamilton grew up singing at the organic musical get-togethers out at her family’s farm in northwest Missouri. Friends and relations would gather under a certain big old oak on hot summer nights to sing and play old country and gospel tunes. The band tries to capture some of that warm, familial spirit every time it plays, and its name pays homage to that particular shady spot.
